“This is not an insult to the President, but to the Constitution…” PM Modi again attacked the Mamata Banerjee government for violating protocol.

March 08, 2026

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several development projects worth approximately ₹33,500 crore in Delhi on Sunday, International Women’s Day. Addressing a public gathering on the occasion, he strongly criticized the TMC government in West Bengal for violating the protocol of President Draupadi Murmu. The PM accused the TMC of insulting the President.

Addressing the public gathering, the PM said, “Today the country is celebrating International Women’s Day, and yesterday the TMC government in West Bengal grossly insulted the country’s President, Draupadi Murmu. Draupadi Murmu had gone to Bengal to attend a major celebration of the Santhal community, but instead of honoring the President, the TMC boycotted this sacred and important event.”

  • “This is an insult to the Constitution”
PM Modi said, “Draupadi Murmu herself comes from the tribal community and has always been concerned about their development. The TMC government abandoned that program to mismanagement. This is not only an insult to the President, but also to the Constitution of India. It is an insult to the spirit of the Constitution. It is also an insult to the great tradition of democracy…

    ‘Power will soon be shattered…’
The PM further said, “It is said in our country that no matter how powerful a person is, arrogance ultimately destroys them. Today, from the nation’s capital, I appeal to all of you that the TMC’s dirty politics and arrogance of power, which has insulted the dignity of a tribal President, will soon be shattered.” He said that the enlightened people of West Bengal will never forgive the TMC for insulting a woman, a tribal, the President of the country. The country will also never forgive them. The tribal community of the country will never forgive them. The women of the country will never forgive them.

    What’s the matter?
The controversy erupted during President Murmu’s visit to North Bengal, where she attended the 9th International Santhal Conference in Darjeeling district as the chief guest. Originally, the event was scheduled for Bidhannagar (Phansidewa Block), where a large number of Santhal tribal community members could have attended. However, citing security, congestion, and other reasons, the state administration relocated it to Goshaipur (or Gosainpur) near Bagdogra Airport. The President himself expressed displeasure over the change, stating that the new venue was too small, preventing many people from attending.
