Washington: US President Donald Trump is facing fierce opposition in his own country. This is the third major demonstration against the dictatorial attitude of Trump and his team. According to organizers, demonstrations were held at approximately 2,600 locations across the US, with thousands of people participating to express their anger against Trump. Anti-Trump groups are calling these protests “No Kings,” while Trump supporters are calling them “Hate America.”
According to a report, similar demonstrations are expected to take place in smaller cities and towns across the US, and even some foreign capitals, by the end of the day. It’s worth noting that the last major demonstration against Trump took place in June. According to organizers, that demonstration attracted millions of people. Since then, Trump has made many controversial decisions. As a result, even more people are expected to attend these protests.
People took to the streets
According to reports, American citizens took to the streets of the capital, Washington, and marched to the Capitol. The rally had a carnival-like atmosphere. Protesters carried banners, American flags, and balloons, and some even wore colorful clothing. In addition to Washington, large crowds gathered against Trump at No Kings rallies in New York, Boston, Chicago, and Atlanta.
One protester said they came to the rallies for democracy and truth. They are against any encroachment of power. Stephen Kenny, who attended the protest, said, “I’m scared for my democracy, for my immigrant neighbors, for my community. People are losing their rights. My trans friends are very scared for their lives. In such an environment, I felt I had to do the least.”
Meanwhile, a man wearing a mask resembling Trump’s face said, “I’m a proud citizen of DC. I don’t want the military to be used against cities to suppress dissent. I feel very good here that we have the ability to protest.” Thousands of people protested along the beach.
Trump said, “I’m not a king.”
There has been no response from Trump since the protests began at 10:00 U.S. time. However, during an interview on Friday, Trump said, “They’re calling me a king… I’m not a king.”
According to Leah Greenberg, co-founder of Indivisible, the main organizer of the “No Kings” march, these marches have been organized by approximately 300 grassroots groups. According to Reuters, these marches have the support of several leaders, including Senator Bernie Sanders and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat.
