Shillong. A special investigation team of Meghalaya Police carrying arrested Sonam Raghuvanshi, one of the five accused in the murder case of Indore businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, reached Shillong around midnight. Giving this information on Wednesday, a senior official said that the team will visit the crime scene in Sohra for investigation and connect the links of the incident.

He said that four others arrested from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in connection with the murder will also be brought to Shillong and produced in the local court. He said that Sonam was taken to a hospital here for medical examination and she will be produced in the court during the day as the SIT (Special Investigation Team) will request the court for her police custody to complete the investigation.

“The SIT team that brought Sonam arrived before midnight. She was taken to a hospital here to ascertain whether she was pregnant or not. Three tests were conducted on her. Sonam will be produced before a court here,” a senior police official said. East Khasi Hills district Superintendent of Police (SP) Vivek Sim confirmed that tests did not confirm Sonam’s pregnancy.

“Four other accused – Raj Kushwaha, Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan and Anand Kuli – are also being brought here on transit remand on Wednesday,” the official said. He said the SIT “will request police custody of all the arrested persons and will dramatise the incident at the crime scene in Sohra to connect the dots.”

Sim said the Meghalaya police has named the investigation as ‘Operation Honeymoon’. The police have collected evidence from Indore and Ghazipur and other places visited by the accused. Sonam and her associates were arrested from Indore in Madhya Pradesh and Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh last month for their role in plotting the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.

The SIT has taken the accused arrested from Indore on six-day remand and one accused arrested from Ghazipur on three-day remand, he said. Raghuvanshi and his wife went missing on May 23 while holidaying in Meghalaya’s Sohra area. Raghuvanshi’s body was found in a ditch on June 2.
