Ranchi: Vegetable prices have risen tremendously in the rainy season. Vegetable prices have also been affected by the kitchen budget and the taste of food. In the vegetable market of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, tomatoes are priced at 80 rupees and cauliflower and beans at 100 rupees per kg.
From ladyfinger to all other vegetables are also expensive and green vegetables are hardly available at a price less than 80 or 70 rupees per kg. Carrots are also out of the reach of common people. On the other hand, capsicum is making people cry, its price is 120 rupees per kg.
Shopkeepers say that they have been decorating their shops since morning but customers are missing. Vegetables are certainly expensive but shopkeepers say that it is not their fault, they are also getting vegetables at high prices. Shopkeepers say that they came to know that farmers have suffered losses due to the continuous rain for the last 3 months. Hence, there is less supply and more demand.
They are not able to meet the demand. Vegetables have spoiled in the fields itself, due to which the prices are skyrocketing. Here, the reason for the lack of customers is also believed to be that they buy green vegetables as per their need and their dependence on supplementary vegetables i.e. gram, soybean etc. is increasing. At the same time, shopkeepers have no hope of getting relief for the next 2 months.
