While discussing the budget, the minister’s focus shifted to schemes related to animal husbandry and the dairy sector. He then made a surprising statement about sex-sorted semen used in cow insemination, which shocked everyone. From the stage, the minister said that the government would try to ensure that Nandi Maharaj (the bull) is not born at all. After this statement, not only were those present surprised, but the comment quickly became a subject of discussion and controversy.

  • During the press conference on the budget in Ajmer, Union Minister SP Baghel mentioned the changes taking place in the animal husbandry sector. He said that the use of machines has increased significantly in modern times, and technology is now being used in everything from farming to transportation. In this context, he said that bulls are no longer of much use and are becoming useless. He then spoke about sex-sorted semen used in cow insemination and said that the government would try to ensure that Nandi Maharaj is not born at all. The atmosphere of the press conference suddenly changed after this statement, and people started looking at each other in surprise.

The minister’s statement directly relates to religious and social sentiments associated with cows and bulls (Nandi). The purpose of sex-sorted semen is generally said to be to increase the number of female calves to boost milk production in the dairy sector. However, the minister’s statement that Nandi Maharaj should not be born at all made many people uncomfortable. Questions arose in social and political circles about whether this comment was made deliberately or whether the choice of words was inappropriate.

After the statement sparked strong reactions and questions, Union Minister SP Baghel took a U-turn on his own statement. He clarified, saying that it’s not that there will be no bulls at all. He also added that the government’s aim is not to hurt anyone’s feelings, but to strengthen the animal husbandry and dairy sector in accordance with modern needs. Despite this clarification, discussions surrounding the statement continue unabated.
