Bhopal: The Kinnar Akhara has announced a major step to protect the transgender community from alleged religious exploitation and conversion. According to the Akhara’s founder, a grand consecration ceremony will be held on February 15th in the Lalghati area of Bhopal, where the community’s spiritual leaders will be announced.
Rishi Ajay Das, the 50-year-old founder of India’s first Kinnar Akhara, said that the consecration ceremony will take place on February 15th in the Lalghati area of Bhopal. He told a news agency over the phone that the identity of the chosen ‘Shankaracharya’ will be revealed during the ceremony. On that day, around 250 transgender people in Bhopal will reconvert to Hinduism.”
Rishi Ajay Das, a post-graduate in science, formed the Kinnar Akhara during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela in Ujjain in 2016. He alleged that the Kinnar community is facing “Islamization” and exploitation. He said that transgender living spaces have become safe havens for “jihadis” because the public and police avoid these places.
Kinnar leader Kajal Thakur, who is part of this initiative, recently alleged that Hindu transgender people are being forced to convert to Islam and that some members of the community have links to terror funding in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
According to community insiders, the group has decided to establish a “peetha” (seat) in Pushkar, Rajasthan, which will serve as the permanent seat of their “Shankaracharya.” Pushkar was chosen because it has the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma.
A group of protesters, supported by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, protested in Bhopal. A memorandum was given to the Collector alleging that a local transgender leader was involved in ‘Kinnar Jihad’ and forced religious conversion.
