Washington. US President Donald Trump had stated that he would not attend the G20 summit in South Africa later this month. Following this, Trump announced on Friday that no US official would participate in the G20 summit. He cited the “mistreatment” of white farmers there as the reason behind this.
Donald Trump, who is angry with South Africa, has announced a boycott of the G20 summit. Trump had previously stated that he himself would not attend the G20 summit later this month. Vice President J.D. Vance was planned to be sent in his place, but now he too will not go to South Africa.
JD Vance will also not travel to South Africa.
Trump had previously announced that he would not attend the annual summit of heads of state of the world’s leading and emerging economies on November 22-23. Vice President JD Vance was initially expected to attend in his place, but a person familiar with Vance’s plans, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Vance will no longer be traveling to the summit.
Trump wrote in a social media post, “It is a complete disgrace that the G-20 Summit is being held in South Africa.” In his post, he accused the Afrikaner community (South Africa’s white farmers) of “mistreatment,” including violence, murder, and the seizure of their land and farms.
Indeed, the Trump administration has long accused the South African government of persecuting and allowing attacks on minority white Afrikaner farmers. The administration reduced the annual number of refugees to 7,500, stating that most of them would be “white South Africans” facing violence and discrimination in their home country.
South African government rejects allegations
However, the South African government has denied these allegations. President Cyril Ramaphosa said he told Trump that all reports of atrocities against Afrikaners are “completely false.” He said that the standard of living for white South Africans is still much better than for the country’s black citizens. Nevertheless, the administration has continued to criticize the South African government. During a speech in Miami earlier this week, Trump said that South Africa should be expelled from the G-20.
