Washington. US President Donald Trump has hinted at further increasing tariffs on India. However, he has not clarified when and how much he is planning to increase the tariffs. He said that such a step can be taken regarding buying Russian oil. Recently, the US had imposed a 25 percent duty on India and a fine on buying Russian oil.
Trump said on Truth Social, ‘India is not only buying huge quantities of oil from Russia, but is also selling it in the open market to make huge profits. They do not care how many people are dying in Ukraine due to the Russian war machine.’
A day after announcing a 25 percent duty on India and a ‘fine’ on trade with Russia, Trump wrote on the social media platform on Thursday, ‘I don’t care what India does to Russia. I don’t care how they can take down their ‘dead economies’ together.’
Why did he impose higher tariffs earlier
Trump on Wednesday cited the ‘huge’ trade deficit with the BRICS group and New Delhi and said the US is currently in talks with India. Trump said at the White House, ‘We are in talks right now and that includes the BRICS issue. You know, BRICS is basically a group of anti-American countries and India is a member of it. This is an attack on the US currency and we will not let anyone do this.’
