Vance Connected to Trump via ‘Hotline’ During Islamabad Talks; Spoke Dozens of Times Over 21 Hours

April 12, 2026

New Delhi: The marathon meeting, which had been underway in Islamabad for the past 21 hours in an effort to find a path to peace between the United States and Iran, has now concluded. Following these lengthy discussions, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance has departed for the United States without reaching any agreement. Prior to his departure, Vance revealed that throughout the entire duration of these talks, he remained directly connected to President Donald Trump via a ‘hotline.’ He stated that he spoke with Trump dozens of times during these 21 hours, and that the entire team stationed in Washington was closely monitoring every minute detail and update.

According to sources, J.D. Vance stated during a press conference that he was in constant contact not only with President Trump but also with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and Admiral Brad Cooper. Vance explained that he was sharing every piece of information—both major and minor—with his entire team because the United States was genuinely committed to bringing these negotiations to a successful conclusion. However, despite such extensive deliberation, a resolution did not appear to materialize at this time, and Vance has since returned.

  • Arrived with an Open Mind, But the Impasse Remains
Vance stated in clear terms, “We came here with a very open mind, hoping to find a path toward peace. However, even after 21 hours of discussion, we have been unable to reach a concrete agreement.” Vance had previously signaled that if the talks failed to progress, he would return; true to his word, he did exactly that once the meeting concluded.

While Pakistan hosted this high-stakes meeting, the issues under discussion were of such gravity that reaching a consensus proved difficult. The primary objective was to halt the ongoing conflict in the region and to ensure the safety of vital maritime routes—such as the Strait of Hormuz—for shipping traffic. However, the atmosphere at the negotiating table remained highly charged.

Iran remained adamant in its stance that it would not back down an inch until the billions of dollars of its funds currently frozen in other countries were returned to it. On the other hand, the Trump administration, adopting a firm stance, has made it clear that the Strait of Hormuz is an international waterway and that the United States is prepared to go to any lengths to keep it open. Currently, J.D. Vance has returned to the U.S. without reaching any agreement, raising fears that tensions between the two nations could escalate further in the days ahead.
