New York. Leader of the all-party delegation and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has given this message to the world that the Indian delegation has come to make it clear that we will not sit silent against the evil forces attacking India. He appealed to the global community to stand with all solidarity and collective strength against this disaster of terrorism.
Tharoor said this while talking to the media outside the 9/11 Memorial. He said, ‘This visit to the 9/11 Memorial is a serious reminder that just as America fell victim to terrorism, India too has suffered this wound repeatedly. We have also suffered the same wounds that are visible today in this poignant memorial. We have come here with a sense of solidarity and have also come to say that this is a mission.’
‘India stood firmly against evil forces’
The delegation is currently in the US and will then travel to Guyana, Panama, Brazil and Colombia. Tharoor said, ‘In these countries, we will try to explain how important it is for everyone to unite against terrorism. Just as America showed courage and resolve after 9/11, our country too has stood firmly against evil forces after the attack on April 22. We hope that the culprits of this attack and those who trained, funded and armed them would have learned some lessons from this. But we want to make it clear that if this happens again, we will not sit silent.’
‘We will search for them until they are found’
He said, ‘This is not the time for indifference, but for mutual strength and cooperation, so that we can all stand together for the values that America has always valued – democracy, freedom, diversity and peaceful coexistence of different communities. Unfortunately, all these values are not on the agenda of those who carried out such attacks.’
Referring to the repeated terrorist attacks on India, Tharoor stressed that ‘the perpetrators of terrorism must be brought to justice and we will not stop looking for the culprits of the recent attack until they are caught.’
He said, ‘We need to think about where these people are hiding, where they get shelter, where they are trained, from where they get weapons, funds and help. Those who help them in carrying out these horrific attacks should also be held responsible.’
‘Now only listing or diplomacy will not work’
Talking about the sanctions imposed on terrorist organizations by the United Nations, Tharoor said, ‘The United Nations Sanctions Committee has listed about 52 individuals and organizations of Pakistan but now only listing, diplomacy or making international documents will not work. We will also exercise our right to self-defense, which every country recognizes.’
