Will the War Come to a Halt? Trump Signals Winding Down Military Operations, Says ‘Mission Iran’ Nearing Completion

March 21, 2026

New Delhi: On the 21st day of the US-Iran conflict, President Donald Trump has shared a surprising ‘exit plan.’ In a detailed post published on ‘Truth Social,’ Trump claimed that the United States is ‘extremely close’ to achieving its military objectives and is now considering gradually scaling back its major ongoing military operations in the Middle East.

In his post, Trump enumerated the achievements he views as the basis for victory, stating, “We have completely destroyed Iran’s missile capabilities, defense industrial base, navy, and air force.” Trump also made it clear that the United States would ensure that Iran never comes close to acquiring nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, Trump stated that the United States has ensured the security of its regional allies—Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait—and remains committed to their defense in the future.

  • The most significant part of Trump’s statement concerned the security of the ‘Strait of Hormuz.’ He stated in unequivocal terms that the countries utilizing this maritime route for their oil and trade should now assume the responsibility for its security and policing. He noted that while the United States could provide assistance if necessary, the primary responsibility for this task should rest with other nations.

Trump argued, “The United States does not utilize this route; therefore, other nations should step forward.” He described this as an “easy military operation” for those countries, adding that once the threat posed by Iran is neutralized, there will no longer be a need for a major US role in the region.

It is worth noting that the ‘Strait of Hormuz’ is a critical artery for global energy supplies, serving as a conduit for the shipment of vast quantities of oil and gas. In recent weeks, attacks and escalating tensions in this region have also had repercussions on global markets. Trump’s statement is being viewed at a time when the war has been going on for nearly three weeks and instability persists in the region.
