Washington. US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently met at the White House. During the meeting, Trump advised Zelensky to accept Russia’s proposal. Furthermore, Trump also stated that if Ukraine did not agree to Russia’s terms, Putin would destroy Ukraine.
The meeting between Trump and Zelensky was heated at times, often bordering on physical altercations, with Trump repeatedly speaking angrily and using abusive language. During the meeting, Trump threw aside maps of Ukraine’s war zone and told Zelensky that he should hand over the entire Donbas region to Russian President Vladimir Putin. Trump also told Zelensky that he was losing this war and warned that if Putin wanted, he would completely destroy him.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived at the White House on Friday and met with Trump. Zelensky had hoped to receive new weapons to fight Russia, but Trump made it clear that his focus now was on a peace agreement, not on increasing Ukraine’s military strength.
According to Reuters, during the two-hour meeting, Zelensky requested long-range Tomahawk missiles from the US, but Trump took a cold approach. He said he was scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary in the coming weeks and wanted to focus more on preventing a war between the two countries.
After the meeting, Trump said, “I have told both President Zelensky and President Putin that this war must end immediately. Stop where the fighting is taking place and return to your homes.” The killing must stop now.
A day before the meeting with Zelensky, Trump and Putin had a phone conversation. Trump presented himself as a mediator between the two sides, Russia and Ukraine. Trump said, “I believe President Zelensky wants to end the war, and so does President Putin. Now, we just have to cooperate a little.”
Zelensky, however, said, “We want a ceasefire, but Putin doesn’t.” He told Trump that Ukraine has thousands of drones ready to attack Russia, but they don’t have American Tomahawk missiles. “We need them.” Trump replied, “We’d rather you didn’t need the Tomahawks.”
