Srinagar: More than 1,000 madrasas have been closed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir until further notice due to the possibility of military action by India. On April 22, 26 tourists were shot dead by Pakistan-backed terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. India has vowed to take revenge for this attack, for which various steps are being taken by Pakistan in the border areas.
India and Pakistan have fought two wars over Kashmir and there have been countless border clashes in the last several decades. Therefore, when tensions between the two countries increase, people living in the border areas have to be alert. According to a report by news agency Reuters, Pakistan has said that it has reliable intelligence that India intends to launch military action soon in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke separately to India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and called for reducing tensions and maintaining peace and security in South Asia. Rubio urged Pakistani authorities to cooperate in investigating this “inhumane attack”. Meanwhile, Hafiz Nazir Ahmed, head of the Department of Religious Affairs in PoK, said, ‘We have announced a 10-day holiday for all madrassas in Kashmir.’
Pakistan also fired on the Line of Control in different sectors of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday night. In Muzaffarabad, the main city of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, emergency service personnel are training school children on what they should do in case India attacks. The children are being trained in how to do bandaging, how to carry someone on a stretcher and how to extinguish fire, etc.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police has released posters of the Pahalgam attackers – two Pakistani and one local terrorist. They are associated with the Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. The Jammu and Kashmir Police has announced a reward of Rs 20 lakh for anyone giving information about them. Security forces believe that the terrorists who carried out the Pahalgam attack are hiding in the forests of South Kashmir. A massive search operation is being carried out to find them.
