2 Ugandan Women Illegally Residing in Mumbai Detained; Deportation Underway

March 26, 2026

Mumbai: Two foreign women have been taken into custody following a joint operation conducted by the police and the Anti-Terrorism Cell in Mumbai’s Vakola area. Both women are citizens of Uganda and had been residing in India for a prolonged period without valid documentation. A targeted raid was executed after the police received intelligence regarding their activities, leading to their apprehension. Legal proceedings have now been initiated against them, and the process for their deportation is currently underway.

The Mumbai Police and the Anti-Terrorism Cell carried out a joint operation in the Vakola locality. During this operation, the two Ugandan women were taken into custody. The arrested women have been identified as Nakayondo Rose (37) and Kemigisa Proscovia (26). According to the police, both women had been under surveillance for a considerable period. Officials decided to take action after their activities appeared suspicious. Subsequently, a special team was formed, and a plan for the raid was devised.

  • The investigation revealed that both women had been residing in the Kalina area of Mumbai for the past few years. However, they did not possess the necessary valid visas or documents required to reside in India. The police had received information indicating that they were continuing to stay in the country even after the expiration of their authorized stay period. Based on this specific intelligence, the police prepared for a targeted raid. Officials executed the raid with a comprehensive plan and took both women into custody at the scene.

During the raid, when the two women were interrogated, several significant details came to light. They admitted that their visas had expired quite some time ago. Despite this, they had continued to reside in India. According to the police, this constitutes a violation of the Foreigners Act. Legal action has been initiated in this matter under the relevant sections of the law. Officials stated that a strict legal protocol is followed in such cases.

Police officials have confirmed that the process for the deportation of both women has now been set in motion. To facilitate this, the relevant government departments and the Ugandan Embassy are being contacted. Upon the completion of legal formalities, they will be repatriated to their home country. Additionally, an investigation is underway to determine the nature of the activities they were involved in here, as well as how they managed to reside in the country for such an extended period without valid documentation.

Security agencies have been put on high alert following this operation. Officials state that foreign nationals residing illegally in major metropolitan areas—such as Mumbai—are being kept under constant surveillance. Action in such cases is initiated based on intelligence inputs. The police have clarified that similar investigations and operations will continue in the future to ensure that national security remains uncompromised and that illegal activities are completely curbed.
