Visakhapatnam: A tragic incident took place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. A part of 20 feet long wall fell during Chandnotsavam in Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy temple. Seven people died and four were injured in this accident. District Collector Harendra Prasad said that SDRF and NDRF teams are engaged in rescue work.
How did the accident happen?
According to the information, Chandnotsavam was going on in the temple. Then suddenly a part of 20 feet fell. This caused a stampede there. District Collector Harendra Prasad said that rescue teams are taking the injured to the hospital. The causes of the accident are being ascertained. According to an SDRF jawan, seven people died in the incident. The injured have been sent to the hospital for treatment. As soon as we got information about the incident, we immediately reached the spot.
Why devotees had gathered
Actually, Lord Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy gives darshan to the devotees in his real form in the temple. A large number of devotees reached Singhgiri to have darshan of the Lord. Swamiji was awakened at 1:00 am with Suprabhat Seva. After this, the sandalwood on the body of the Lord was removed with a silver spoon. Special prayers were offered for the Lord, who had come in his real form. The hereditary trustee of the temple, Pusapati Ashok Gajapatiraju and his family members were given the first real darshan and they offered the first sandalwood to the Lord. Later, Revenue Minister Angani Satya Prasad presented silk clothes on behalf of the state government and TTD. Protocol and inner temple darshan were arranged from 3 am to 6 am.
Crowd had gathered since Tuesday A huge crowd had gathered in Singhgiri since Tuesday afternoon to have darshan of the real form of the Lord. The queues for free darshan set up in Kalyanam ground in front of Keshkhandshala were full of devotees. This queue extended beyond the queue to Tripurantaka Swamy temple. They had gathered a day before with the intention that if they reach the free queue early, they will get darshan early.
