‘Take Trump’s words seriously… it will be better’, Nikki Haley’s advice to India on tariff dispute

Washington: Former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has said that India should take President Donald Trump’s words seriously on the issue of buying Russian oil and should find a solution soon in collaboration with the White House. She said that ‘the sooner this happens, the better it will be.’

‘America needs a friend like India’
In her social media post, Nikki Haley wrote, ‘The decades-long friendship and trust between the world’s two largest democratic powers is a strong foundation for moving forward from the current differences.’

Haley made it clear that tough negotiations are necessary on issues like trade dispute and oil import from Russia, but common goals are the most important. According to her, America needs a friend like India to face China.

‘China can take advantage of the rift’
According to Haley, India’s rise is the biggest geopolitical development after China’s economic expansion and as India becomes stronger, China’s ambitions will weaken. While appealing for direct talks between Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he had said that if timely steps are not taken then Beijing can take advantage of this rift.
