‘Forced into room’: Allegations against Shaheen Afridi and Sikandar Raza, PSL in turmoil!

Lahore: The Pakistan Super League 2026 is once again embroiled in controversy. This time, Lahore Qalandars are directly targeted. Serious allegations have been leveled against team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and all-rounder Sikandar Raza. According to the Punjab Police, the two players, ignoring established security regulations, not only allowed four unauthorized individuals onto the players’ hotel floor but also allegedly ‘forced’ them into their rooms.

According to the report, the entire matter came to light when the security of the players and support staff staying at the hotel was breached. In a letter written by the police to Salman Naseer, it was clearly stated that these visitors were not permitted, and even the team’s liaison officer’s request had been rejected twice. Despite this, Shaheen and Raza escorted the guests inside despite opposition from the security personnel on duty, and they remained there for approximately three hours.

Security agencies have termed this incident a “clear violation of protocol.” Punjab Police have demanded that the league organizers review the matter and take strict action to prevent such incidents in the future. While there has been no official statement from Lahore Qalandars, after the match, Sikandar Raza clarified that the individuals were his family and close friends. Giving Shaheen a clean chit, Raza said, “They were just helping me; the real responsibility lies with me. I have known them all for a long time.”

Amidst this entire controversy, the Pakistan Cricket Board has already taken a tough stance. The initial matches of the league are being held behind closed doors, citing energy savings and ongoing tensions in West Asia. For security reasons, heavy police deployment is already in place outside the players’ hotels and grounds.

It’s worth noting that Naseem Shah was also recently served a notice for a disciplinary violation, which clearly indicates the board is in no mood to show any leniency this season. It will be interesting to see what turn this matter takes in the PSL. Will action be taken against the players or will this controversy be resolved with a clean chit-chat?
