Bengaluru: The long-standing power struggle between Siddaramaiah and D.K. Shivakumar within the Karnataka Congress appears to be moving towards a potential resolution via a specific formula. According to sources, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to be allotted a Rajya Sabha seat and assigned a significant role at the national level, while his son, Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah, may be granted a ministerial berth in the new state cabinet.
This arrangement could pave the way for Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar to assume the office of Chief Minister. This formula devised by the Congress party signals a clear intent to maintain internal balance while facilitating a leadership transition within the Karnataka government. Additionally, sources indicated that Shivakumar may step down from his current position as the President of the Karnataka Congress Committee.

Sources revealed that this formula was finalized during a marathon meeting held in Delhi on Tuesday involving the Congress High Command. During this meeting—which lasted approximately seven hours—Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, and the party’s Karnataka in-charge, Randeep Surjewala, engaged in extensive discussions regarding the ongoing political dynamics in the state.
Will Siddaramaiah Resign as Karnataka Chief Minister? Find Out Here
Although Congress leaders have publicly denied any discussions regarding a change in leadership, the political maneuvering taking place behind the scenes has further fueled speculation that Siddaramaiah may soon relinquish the Chief Minister’s post.
Siddaramaiah May Resign Soon
A source privy to the details of the meeting stated that the party leadership has made it clear to Siddaramaiah that the Congress now intends to entrust him with a major responsibility at the national level, given that he is one of the party’s most prominent and respected leaders from the Backward Classes community in the country. The party desires for him to enter national politics—with an eye on the 2029 Lok Sabha elections—and play a significant, influential organizational role at the national stage. Sources also indicated that Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may resign from his post on Thursday.
Shivakumar to Resign as KPCC President
Sources further revealed that D.K. Shivakumar will step down from the post of Karnataka Congress President. Satish Jarkiholi is likely to be appointed as the new party president in his place. Satish hails from the Scheduled Tribes community.
According to this new arrangement brokered by the Congress High Command, senior leader Siddaramaiah will relinquish the Chief Minister’s chair in Karnataka to shift his focus to national politics; the party intends to send him to Delhi by securing a safe seat for him in the Rajya Sabha. Once Siddaramaiah moves to the national arena, the path will be completely cleared for D.K. Shivakumar to form the government in the state as the new Chief Minister, thereby permanently resolving the major impasse that has existed between the two factions.
