Dausa. A severe road accident occurred late Tuesday night on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Rajasthan’s Dausa district. A sleeper bus en route from Rishikesh to Indore collided with a truck moving ahead of it. The impact was so severe that both the bus and the truck caught fire. Seven people have died in the accident so far, while 22 others have been injured.
Dausa SP Piyush Dixit stated that the accident took place around 2:30 AM at ‘Zero Point’ in Tanawad, within the jurisdiction of the Kolwa police station. Among the deceased, five people died from burns, while two succumbed to severe head injuries. The injured are undergoing treatment at the Dausa District Hospital. According to the police, the fire spread rapidly through the bus after the crash, making it extremely difficult to rescue passengers trapped inside.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus burned for nearly an hour; during this time, locals attempted to rescue passengers trapped amidst the flames and smoke. Several children were also injured in the accident. The families of the injured admitted to the district hospital are distraught and inconsolable; one woman was seen pleading with doctors to treat her injured child.
Claims of cigarette packets in the bus
Locals have also claimed that the bus’s storage compartment was filled with packets of cigarettes. They believe this contributed to the fire intensifying rapidly. However, the police have not yet officially confirmed this claim, and an investigation into the matter is underway.
