Another major setback for Mamata Banerjee; three former TMC MPs join BJP

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee has suffered a massive blow in West Bengal. Three senior TMC leaders and Rajya Sabha MPs have joined the BJP. The prominent leaders who have joined the BJP include Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik.

Senior BJP leader and state BJP president Samik Bhattacharya officially announced their induction into the party. Bhattacharya stated that the three leaders formally took up BJP membership today. Notably, these leaders had submitted their resignations from their Rajya Sabha seats prior to joining the BJP.

Samik Bhattacharya welcomed Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, Sushmita Dev, and Prakash Chik Baraik into the party fold by draping them with BJP scarves. Speaking on the occasion, Bhattacharya said, “For 34 years, the Left Front ruled, followed by the Trinamool Congress. The politics that persisted in West Bengal for such a long time challenged and undermined our federal structure; instead of cooperating with the Centre, a path of confrontation was adopted, which brought all development to a halt.”

He further added, “Against this backdrop, and placing their faith in Narendra Modi’s leadership, these three MPs resigned from the Trinamool Congress. Today, these three—Sushmita Dev, Prakash Chik Baraik, and Sukhendu Sekhar Roy—have joined the BJP… These three MPs are stalwarts whose performance in the Rajya Sabha is well known to everyone…”

Welcoming the three leaders, Samik Bhattacharya said, “This is a joyous occasion for us, and the entire BJP is happy. On behalf of the BJP, and as its state president—along with our workers, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, the entire cabinet, and our entire organization—I welcome these three individuals wholeheartedly and with great happiness.”
