‘Don’t Just Instruct, Explain’: RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat’s Powerful Parenting Advice for Today’s Generation

July 25, 2026

New Delhi: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat delivered a strong message on parenting, family values, and the changing mindset of today’s youth while addressing the ‘Vishwa Mangalam Sabha’ in Delhi. He stressed that modern children need love, dialogue, and logical explanations rather than blind obedience.

Reflecting on changing times, Bhagwat said that earlier generations accepted their parents’ words without questioning them because of deep trust and respect. However, today’s children are naturally curious and seek reasons behind every instruction. Parents, he said, must be prepared to answer their questions with patience and understanding.

  • Highlighting the impact of modern lifestyles, Bhagwat observed that families are increasingly becoming disconnected. He said people return home tired from work and school, eat together, and then become absorbed in their mobile phones, leaving little room for meaningful conversation. He urged parents to create an environment where children feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and concerns.

“Children need affection, attention, and regular communication,” Bhagwat said, adding that homes should be centres of discussion, not silence or emotional isolation. He emphasized that parents should listen carefully to their children instead of simply giving orders.

The RSS chief also noted that, regardless of how successful children become or even if they settle abroad, they eventually feel connected to their roots and family. He cautioned that it would be unfortunate if a child returned home with important questions and found their parents unable to guide them. For that reason, he said, parents must continue learning and staying informed.

Bhagwat further remarked that the younger generation judges people by their actions rather than their words. If parents fail to practise what they preach, children quickly notice the contradiction. He said values are best passed on through personal example, open communication, and genuine affection.

Concluding his address, Bhagwat encouraged families to maintain close ties with relatives and involve children in family visits and social interactions. Such experiences, he said, help broaden children’s outlook and strengthen their cultural and emotional roots.
