Accused mother-in-law arrested in Nikki murder case, had helped son to burn daughter-in-law

New Delhi: Police arrested Daya, mother-in-law of the accused in Nikki Bhati murder case. Nikki’s family alleges that her in-laws burnt their daughter alive, which also includes the deceased’s mother-in-law. Nikki’s husband Vipin Bhati was already arrested in this case. He was killed in an encounter while trying to escape from police custody on Sunday.

Vipin Bhati was trying to escape from custody by snatching the police’s weapon. During this, an encounter took place near Sirsa intersection in Greater Noida, in which Vipin Bhati was shot in the leg. The family alleges that Nikki was deliberately burnt to death by her husband and in-laws. The police took immediate action on the complaint of the deceased’s sister and arrested the accused husband Vipin Bhati. Also, two teams were formed to arrest the other accused. Now Vipin Bhati’s mother has also been arrested in this case.

Nikki’s elder sister Kanchan alleged that her mother-in-law and husband Vipin together carried out this incident on Thursday (21 August 2025). She alleged, “Mother-in-law Daya brought flammable substance and gave it to Vipin. After this Vipin sprinkled it on Nikki. Everyone together burnt her alive.” According to Kanchan, she tried to save her sister, but the accused did not listen to her.

On the basis of Kanchan’s complaint, the police have registered a case against Nikki’s husband Vipin Bhati, brother-in-law Rohit Bhati, mother-in-law Daya and father-in-law Satveer. At present, the police is investigating keeping all aspects in mind. A case has been registered under the section of murder in the FIR and the investigation is proceeding on the basis of technical evidence as well as statements of family members.
