New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated India’s first National IED Data Management System. This move is a significant milestone in further strengthening the country’s counter-IED and internal security infrastructure. The NIDMS has been developed by the National Security Guard. It is a secure digital platform that will help streamline the collection, consolidation, and dissemination of IED-related data.
During the virtual inauguration, Amit Shah said that inter-agency coordination will also improve significantly. He added that it will be a very effective way to deliver the right information at the right time and in the right place. The NSG was established in 1984 and since then, it has analyzed terrorist attacks worldwide and prepared for any eventuality. Counter-terrorism activities, anti-hijacking operations, advanced bomb disposal systems, and now creating a platform for data sharing with all agencies are all important functions of the NSG.
NSG Director General Bhrigu Srinivasan stated that the NSG, in collaboration with other agencies, has developed this system over the past 11 months. He described it as a unique platform for India. Through NIDMS, state police, Central Armed Police Forces, and other central agencies will be able to access, analyze, and share data. This will expedite the prevention of terrorist and insurgent attacks and simplify investigation processes. The platform will also improve forensic analysis, training modules, and operational planning. IEDs are frequently used by terrorist and insurgent groups to target security forces and the general public. Through NIDMS, the country’s preparedness can be enhanced using technology and data analytics, ensuring a rapid response in the event of any incident.
