Bihar Assembly Elections: Congress releases new list, 60 candidates announced so far

New Delhi. Congress has released its new list for the Bihar Assembly Elections, announcing the names of six candidates. The party has announced a total of 60 candidates so far. According to the Congress list, Surendra Prasad Kushwaha has been nominated for Valmiki Nagar, Abidur Rahman for Araria, Jalil Mastan for Amaura, Tauqeer Alam for Barari, Praveen Singh Kushwaha for Kahalgaon, and Vinod Chaudhary for the Sikandra Assembly seat.

Congress has fielded Praveen Kushwaha from Kahalgaon, one of the most contentious seats between the RJD and Congress. The party has placed its trust in Vinod Chaudhary for the Sikandra seat.

It should be noted that Congress released its first list on October 17, announcing 48 candidates. While one candidate was announced in the second list, five in the third, and six in the fourth list, the party has fielded candidates for a total of 60 seats so far.

According to a news agency, internal discord within the India Bloc has come to the fore ahead of the Bihar elections. Disgruntled candidates from both the major parties, the RJD and Congress, have accused the party leadership of selling tickets.

With less than 24 hours remaining for the filing of nomination papers for the second and final phase, the India Bloc has still not finalized a seat-sharing formula between the chief ministerial candidate and six allies.

Meanwhile, RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav was seen arbitrarily distributing the party’s election symbol from his residence. This did not go down well with Ritu Jaiswal, the party’s media cell president. She announced that she would file her nomination as an independent candidate from the Parihar seat against the official candidate, Smita Purve. He wrote in a Facebook post that candidate Smita Purve’s father-in-law, Ramchandra Purve (former state president), was behind his 2020 defeat.

Meanwhile, Lalu Yadav’s residence at 10, Circular Road (Patna) was crowded with ticket seekers throughout the day. Leaders who were denied tickets were enraged. Madan Prasad Sah, who narrowly lost the Madhuban seat last time, burst into tears when he learned that someone else had been given the ticket. He said he had supported Lalu Yadav since the 1990s and even sold his land to contest the 2020 elections. Sah attacked Tejashwi Yadav, saying he had become arrogant and alleged that the ticket had been given to a BJP agent.
