New Delhi. Preparations for the Bihar assembly elections have intensified. Late Saturday evening, a crucial meeting of the BJP’s election committee was held at the state headquarters in Patna, where the party’s election strategy and potential candidates were discussed. Today, Sunday, another meeting of party leaders will discuss the seats lost in 2020.
The meeting was chaired by Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has been appointed in-charge of the Bihar elections. He was accompanied by several senior leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya (co-in-charge), Union Ministers Nityanand Rai and Giriraj Singh, MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha.
BJP National General Secretary (Bihar in-charge) Vinod Tawde said on social media after the meeting, “Bihar is once again ready to elect a development-oriented government. Potential candidates for the upcoming elections were discussed in today’s meeting.”
Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar has set new standards of development, good governance, and public welfare.”
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal said, “Today’s meeting focused on 60 seats. Tomorrow (Sunday) we will discuss the remaining seats where we won or lost last time.” He also clarified that the “elder-younger brother” politics will not work within the NDA.
Praising Nitish Kumar’s leadership
Jaiswal said, “The NDA alliance is completely strong. Under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, Bihar has achieved what the opposition was only making promises.” In the 2020 assembly elections, the BJP contested 110 out of 243 seats and won 74.
Jaiswal indicated that sitting MLAs who performed well may receive re-election, while new faces will be given a chance in areas where anti-incumbency is high. Regarding his own contesting, Jaiswal said, “That decision will be taken by the top leadership. At present, I am playing the role of a guardian in the Bihar BJP.”
