Bihar: Lalu and Rabri Upset Over Removal of Z-Plus Security; Return Government Protection

Patna. A political row has erupted following the downgrading of the security cover provided to former Bihar Chief Ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. Angered by the changes to their security, both leaders have returned their government security cover. Following this decision, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has leveled serious allegations against the state government, terming the move as one driven by political vendetta.

RJD state spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav issued a statement confirming that Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi have decided to return the security provided by the government. He alleged that the state government is targeting key opposition leaders and compromising their safety. The party maintains that Lalu Yadav has long been a prominent figure in national politics, and the sudden reduction in his security raises several questions.

Notably, the Z-plus category security cover enjoyed by Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi was withdrawn following a security review conducted on Friday. Subsequently, the responsibility for their security was handed over to Bihar Police personnel. However, the RJD appeared dissatisfied with this arrangement, describing it as a move that undermines the dignity and safety of both leaders.

No Change in Tejashwi’s Security
There has been no alteration to the security arrangements for Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav; he will continue to receive Y-plus category security as before. The security committee holds the view that the position of Leader of the Opposition is equivalent to that of a Cabinet Minister. Furthermore, Tejashwi Yadav remains actively engaged in political programs, public rallies, and tours across various districts. Given his public engagements and participation in crowded events, the existing security arrangement has been maintained.

The security review has also affected Tej Pratap Yadav. Previously, he was provided with Y-category security, but a decision has now been made to downgrade his protection, limiting it to the provision of a single Personal Security Officer (PSO) or bodyguard.
