Boycott China: PM Modi called for boycott of Chinese goods, said- be it Holi or Diwali…

May 28, 2025

New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned the success of Operation Sindoor in a program in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on Tuesday. During this, he made a big appeal to the 140 crore citizens of the country and asked them to end their dependence on foreign goods. Without naming China, PM Modi targeted China, this is not without reason, there are many Chinese products including toys for which India is a big market. Especially if we talk about toys, India has become self-sufficient in it to a large extent and is exporting it to the world. Now PM Modi’s latest appeal can prove to be a big blow to the dragon.

PM said- ‘This is necessary for a developed India’
PM Modi said ‘Boycott of foreign goods is necessary to make India developed by 2047 and bring the economy from fourth to third position. Now we will not use any foreign thing, for this we will have to make traders take an oath in every village that no matter how much profit they make from foreign goods, they should not sell any foreign product.’ Targeting China not by name but in a different way, PM Modi said that today even Ganesh ji with small eyes, whose eyes are not even opening, comes from abroad.

Not only this, colors and pichkaris on Holi also come from there. Earlier in the year 2022, the Prime Minister had emphasized on Vocal for Local while referring to the toy industry and its effect was also seen, India’s toy import decreased and the export of Indian toys is increasing continuously.

China will be hurt by toys
In recent years, India has made a lot of progress in toy exports and is becoming a global hub in this sector. Before the year 2017, the Indian toy industry was heavily dependent on China, where about 90% of the toys were imported from China, but today India’s toy imports have decreased drastically and the demand for Indian toys has increased in big countries like America and India’s exports have also increased. But despite this, the Indian market still remains a big market for Chinese Toys. If this market breaks, China will suffer a big blow.

China has long been an important and big player in the global toy market. The global toy and gaming market is estimated to be around $ 114.4 billion, while looking at the data of GMI Research, the US toy market reached $ 42.8 billion in 2024, which is estimated to be $ 56.9 billion in 2032. At the same time, China’s toy market was $ 22.8 billion in 2024 and is expected to reach $ 50.6 billion by 2033.

Competition with China in toy exports
China’s share in India’s toy imports has dropped from nearly 90 per cent in FY13 to just under 60 per cent in FY24, as is evident from the country’s declining import bill for toys from China, which has gone from $214 million (FY13) to $41.6 million (FY24), respectively. Now if Chinese toys are boycotted after PM Modi’s appeal, then it can cause huge damage to the dragon.
US eyes on Indian exporters after Trump tariff

Recently, when US President Donald Trump announced high tariff on China, its first effect was seen on China Toy Market and many big factories were shut down. Meanwhile, experts had said that this move of America will prove to be a profitable deal for the Indian toy industry.

Let us tell you that about 20 companies of India are already hurting China by exporting toys in large quantities to America. At the same time, it was also said by the Indian Toy Association that some Indian export houses have also contacted us and asked for the list of those manufacturers who can make toys according to American rules.

Boycott China will break the dragon’s back
This was about Chinese toys, but if the Boycott China campaign gains momentum after PM Narendra Modi’s appeal, then not only toys, but other goods coming from there are also boycotted, for which India is also a big market. When people will not buy ‘Made in China’ products, then Chinese products will gradually disappear from the market and this will be a big economic blow to China.

Apart from toys, decorative lights, LED bulbs, mobile phones, sports items, plastic products, ceramic cups, plates and decorative items, gift items, shoes, slippers, electric products (massagers, heating pads, e-toothbrushes, coffee makers etc.) coming from China are consumed in large quantities in the Indian market. Large quantities of factory and manufacturing machines, automobile parts as well as pharma and medical equipment are also included in the list.
