Ceasefire violations: Is this the result of the confrontation between Shahbaz Sharif and Asim Munir?

May 11, 2025

New Delhi. Pakistan has once again shown its true colours. Just 3 hours after the ceasefire was announced on 10 May 2025, the Pakistani army started firing in the border areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Gujarat, and drone activities were also seen. Indian security forces have shot down 4 drones near the army headquarters in Srinagar. The question is why the Pakistani army is not respecting this agreement despite the announcement of ceasefire.

There are indications that the radical group of the Pakistani army is on the verge of revolting against its political leadership. The military leadership of Pakistan is refusing to accept the agreement made by its political leadership.

The Indian government respected the ceasefire that took place after the intervention of US President Donald Trump and Pakistan’s request, but dignity does not matter to the Pakistani army. Just three hours after the ceasefire was announced, the Pakistani army started firing on the international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir’s aggressive military policy and provocative strategy against India are believed to be the main reason for the ceasefire violation. Some analysts believe that Munir is increasing tension with India to divert attention from domestic discontent and criticism of the army.

It is worth noting that since May 7, India has dealt a severe blow to the Pakistani army. A section of Pakistan is questioning the leadership of Asim Munir. Some junior officers and retired generals of the Pakistani army have accused Munir of using the army for political gain, which has increased tension within the army and with the government. Munir is under pressure from Imran Khan’s supporters and other political parties, due to which Munir is taking such steps that strengthen his and the army’s image in the country. It is believed that despite the political leadership agreeing on ceasefire with India, they are trying to send a message that the army rules in Pakistan by not accepting it.

It is worth noting that recently Asim Munir had called Kashmir the “jugular vein of Pakistan” and supported the Two Nation Theory. Along with this, he had described the Muslim community as completely different from Hindus. It was after this statement of Asim Munir that the tourists were attacked in Pahalgam.

It is worth noting here that Pakistan’s PM Shahbaz Sharif, Deputy PM Ishaq Dar have reacted on the ceasefire with India, but the Pakistani army’s media wing ISPR has not reacted on such important issues.

Many analysts believe that the real power in Pakistan right now is with General Asim Munir, not Shahbaz Sharif. Sharif is being seen as Munir’s “puppet”, which limits his decisions.

The Pakistani army, especially under the leadership of Munir, is acting independently of government control. The ceasefire may have been decided by the Sharif government, but the army wants to run parallel to the Pakistani government by showing reluctance to implement it and is also pretending to be popular in its country against India.
