Washington. Top Republican leaders supporting US President Donald Trump on Sunday pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to change his stand on war with Russia or step down. Earlier, the heads of European countries gave their support to Zelensky and Ukraine at a meeting in London on Sunday. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer urged his counterparts to increase their defense efforts for Ukraine in the war against Russia.
Let us tell you that on February 28, US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance clashed with Zelensky in the Oval Office. The Ukrainian President was asked to leave the White House. Zelensky left without having dinner. The heated debate between Zelensky and Trump surprised leaders around the world. Trump was saying that Zelensky should make a peace agreement with Putin to end the war with Russia.
Trump called Zelensky a foolish president
On this, Zelensky argued in the meeting that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not honor the 2019 ceasefire agreement and called him a murderer and a terrorist. Donald Trump objected to his response and accused Zelensky of gambling for the Third World War. In front of media personnel, both the leaders got entangled in a verbal war with each other. Trump called Zelensky a foolish president, alleging that he does not want to get Ukraine out of the crisis.
When asked whether Trump wants Zelensky to resign? In response to this question, US National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said in CNN’s ‘State of the Union’ program, ‘We need a leader who can deal with us, compromise with the Russians and end this war. If it becomes clear that President Zelensky’s personal or political ambitions are different from ending the war in his country, then I think we have a real issue on our hands.’
Will the US continue to help Ukraine?
South Carolina US Senator Lindsey Graham, who is also a top Trump ally and a supporter of Ukraine, while talking to reporters, questioned whether the United States could still work with Zelensky after the clash in the White House. Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson also reiterated the question of Senator Lindsey Graham. Referring to Zelensky, he said in NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’ program, ‘Something has to change. Either he (Zelensky) has to come to his senses and return to the negotiating table with gratitude, or someone else has to lead the country.’
Mike Johnson said, ‘I also want to see Putin defeated. He is an opponent of the United States. But under the current circumstances, we have to focus on ending this war.’ US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on ABC’s ‘This Week’ program, “When he (Zelensky) is ready to make peace, we will be ready to negotiate again.” Rubio said that he has not spoken to Zelensky or Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha since the incident in the Oval Office.
