Farmers’ Delhi March Sparks Border Security Clampdown; Khanauri-Datasinghwala Border Sealed

Sangrur: Farmers are set to march towards Delhi in protest against the India-US trade deal, prompting the Haryana administration to tighten security along the Punjab-Haryana border. The Khanauri-Datasinghwala border in Jind has been sealed ahead of the proposed farmers’ foot march, with police erecting multiple layers of barricades and placing heavy stones and containers on the road to restrict movement.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), led by farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, has announced the ‘Kisan Bachao Padyatra’ (Save Farmers March) from August 16. The march will begin from Datasinghwala and is scheduled to reach Jantar Mantar in Delhi on August 29, covering nearly 228 kilometres on foot.

Five-Layer Barricading at Khanauri Border
In anticipation of the farmers’ march, Haryana Police have intensified security arrangements at the Khanauri-Datasinghwala border. The route leading into Haryana has been closed, with five layers of barricades installed to prevent the farmers’ contingent from entering the state.

Large containers and heavy stones have also been positioned along the road as additional obstacles. A substantial police force has been deployed at the border, while the administration continues to monitor developments closely.

Security Tightened Ahead of August 16 March
The Jind administration stepped up preparations late Saturday night following the farmers’ announcement. Police deployment has been increased and movement along the border route has been restricted.

With the foot march scheduled to begin on August 16 and farmers planning to proceed towards Delhi, authorities are maintaining heightened vigilance in the area. The border is expected to remain a key security point as the administration prepares to prevent the march from advancing into Haryana. The farmers, meanwhile, are demanding action on issues they say affect the agricultural sector and are using the proposed march to protest the India-US trade agreement.
