
New Delhi: The number of domestic air passengers increased by 6.92 percent year-on-year in November this year, reaching 15,238,000. This is the first time that more than 15 million people have traveled by air in a single month. The previous highest figure was recorded in December 2024, when 14,928,000 people traveled by air. According to data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a total of 152.635 million people traveled by air in the 11 months from January to November this year. This is 4.26 percent higher than the same period last year. Significantly, this record was achieved in November, even though the Diwali and Chhath festivals, which usually see high demand, had already concluded in October.
According to the data, Akasa Air topped the list in terms of passenger load factor (PLF) with 93.8 percent. IndiGo came in second with 88.7 percent, and SpiceJet was third with 87.7 percent. The Air India group’s PLF was 87.5 percent, and IndiaOne Air’s was 82.7 percent.
In terms of passenger numbers, IndiGo and Akasa’s market share decreased in November, while the Air India group (Air India and Air India Express) and SpiceJet saw an increase in their market share. IndiGo’s market share fell from 65.6 percent in October to 63.6 percent. The Air India group’s share was 26.7 percent, Akasa’s was 4.7 percent, and SpiceJet’s was 3.7 percent.
In terms of on-time performance (OTP) in the six metro cities of Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, Akasa Air ranked first with 72.2 percent. The Air India group had 69.1 percent of its flights on time, IndiGo had 69 percent, Alliance Air had 59 percent, and SpiceJet had 48.4 percent.
Chennai Airport ranked first in on-time departures with 86.4 percent. This was followed by Bengaluru Airport with 78.6 percent, Hyderabad with 75.5 percent, Kolkata with 74.4 percent, Delhi with 62.2 percent, and Mumbai with 50.1 percent.
