New Delhi. Amidst the controversy surrounding the film ‘Dhurandhar 2’, S.P. Vaid—the former Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir—has openly come out in support of the movie. Launching a scathing attack on its critics, he stated that while the matters depicted in the film may be bitter, they remain firmly grounded in reality.
According to S.P. Vaid, the manner in which notorious gangsters like Atiq Ahmed and Dawood Ibrahim have been portrayed in the film accurately reflects their criminal histories. He noted that while Atiq Ahmed may have served as a Member of Parliament, details regarding his criminal activities, possession of illegal weaponry, and alleged links to Pakistan have long been a matter of public record.
The former DGP further alleged that certain politicians have been complicit in the country’s counterfeit currency networks and played a role in facilitating the transfer of printing machinery to Pakistan. He cited this as a major underlying reason behind stringent policy decisions such as demonetization.
Vaid reacted sharply to opposition parties labeling the film as “government propaganda.” He pointed out that in the past—when there were allegations of films being produced using funds provided by Dawood Ibrahim—no one raised any objections; yet, now that the truth is being brought to light, protests are being staged. He also clarified that no government funds were utilized in the production of the film, emphasizing that it is an independent endeavor inspired by actual events.
It is noteworthy that while the film has garnered support from some quarters, certain political parties on the other hand are raising objections, dismissing it as propaganda. However, S.P. Vaid maintains that viewers should view the film through the lens of factual accuracy.
