“I brought the ICC to its knees…” What question did a journalist ask Mohsin Naqvi? PSL team CEO burst out laughing.

February 12, 2026

New Delhi: Pakistan’s bid to boycott the T20 World Cup match against India has ended. Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has made headlines for a new reason: a press conference. A video of this conference is rapidly going viral on social media, in which a journalist’s question causes a person sitting next to him to burst out laughing.

This incident is said to have taken place at a press conference held in Islamabad after the Pakistan Super League 2026 auction. In the video, a Pakistani journalist praises Naqvi, saying that he forced the ICC to its knees. Upon hearing this, the person sitting next to Naqvi turned away and started laughing. This prompted social media users to troll Naqvi.

Who is the person laughing at Mohsin Naqvi?
The man seen in the video has been identified as Ahsan Tahir, Group CEO of the Walee Group. This same group acquired the controversial Multan Sultans franchise for a record price of approximately ₹79 crore (PKR 2.45 billion).

  • Naqvi mocked on social media
As soon as the video surfaced, users began trolling the PCB chairman. Some wrote, “He himself knew it was a joke.” Another said, “The body language spoke volumes.” Many reactions also suggested that Pakistan had to backtrack on its decision.

    Why was there controversy?
Pakistan initially took a firm stance on boycotting the match against India during the T20 World Cup 2026. However, the PCB later took a U-turn and decided to play the match, sparking criticism within Pakistan. The PCB stated that the decision was made after discussions with the ICC and in the presence of Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam.

    Sri Lanka connection also surfaced
Pakistan also claimed that the situation changed after talks between Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Sri Lankan President Anuar Kumara Dissanayake. The PCB stated that the Sri Lankan President had also appealed for the boycott to be lifted and the match to be played. This entire incident raised many questions about the PCB’s strategy: first, the boycott, and then the sudden reversal of its decision.
