Kanpur: The altercation between female employees at a Kanpur bank remains a topic of discussion on social media. The January 6th altercation came to light when a video of bank employee Aastha Singh surfaced, in which she can be seen saying, “I’m a Thakur, don’t talk nonsense…” After the video went viral, Aastha Singh came forward and explained the situation. A video of Ritu Tripathi also surfaced, and she also spoke about the video.
Ritu Tripathi Mishra’s Response
Ritu Tripathi released a video saying, “Hello, Radhe-Radhe. I am Ritu Tripathi Mishra. I am a Tripathi from my maternal home and a Mishra from my in-laws’. The Tripathis who were slandered and insulted by the so-called “Thakur girl” are me. The family whose reputation was questioned is my family. I am the one who had to endure the abuse.” The person who was threatened with even hitting his laptop is me. He is my husband, my family. Despite all this, I did not make any video viral. I do not wish to gain attention or create a heroine image by spreading false videos. I am a Brahmin and I am proud of my identity. I only request all of you to support me if I am not wrong. As a daughter of Kanpur, I expect justice and respect.
What Aastha Singh Said
Aastha Singh alleges that she was questioned loudly on the bank premises. She claims that during the conversation, she was asked about her caste and allegedly used abusive language. When asked about her caste, she told them. Aastha also said that the controversy was not just about the resignation. According to her, Ritu Tripathi’s sister had come to the bank that morning and an argument ensued. Aastha claims that Ritu arrived at the bank with her husband in the afternoon regarding the same incident, and the situation escalated. She also alleged that she was threatened with dismissal from her job. Aastha says that some people are trying to give this entire issue a caste and political spin, whereas, according to her, the matter is about the dignity of a female employee and workplace safety.
Both Statements Differ
The allegations in both parties’ statements differ. While Aastha Singh talks about alleged pressure and threats at the workplace, Ritu Tripathi talks about the Mishra family’s reputation and public image being questioned. In her statement, Aastha Singh also said that attempts are being made to politicize the matter. She says that dragging the state government into the matter on the basis of caste is not appropriate.
