India receives major relief from US tariffs, reduced from 18% to 10%

February 21, 2026

New Delhi. The US Supreme Court has declared President Donald Trump’s tariffs against various countries illegal. Following the repeal of these tariffs, President Donald Trump announced a 10% tariff on all countries under another regulation. This raised questions about whether products from countries like India, which have already agreed to trade deals with the US, would be included in this new tariff. However, shortly thereafter, the US administration clarified that a uniform 10% tariff will now be imposed on all countries that have already signed or agreed to trade deals. Previously, the US had stated that it would impose an 18% tariff on Indian products under the trade deal.

  • White House officials clarified that the tariff rate on India has been reduced from 18% to 10%. This explains Trump’s new 10 percent global tariff. Eamon Javers details the 10 percent tariff on all trade deal countries, including India.

Under the trade deal, the US imposed 15 percent tariffs on the European Union, 15 percent on Japan, 10 percent on the UK, and 18 percent on India. Tariffs of 15 percent on Switzerland, 15 percent on South Korea, and 20 percent on Vietnam were also proposed. The US has either reached trade deals or reached agreements with all these countries or unions. However, following the US Supreme Court’s decision, Donald Trump’s new order calls for a 10 percent tariff on all countries. Consequently, Vietnam, which was previously expected to pay a 20 percent tariff, stands to benefit the most from this order. The tariff on Indian products has been reduced from 18 percent to 10 percent.

However, earlier, while commenting on the Supreme Court’s decision, Donald Trump had stated that there was a trade deal with India and that its products would continue to be subject to an 18 percent tariff. However, officials have clarified that the new 10% tariff order applies to all countries, including those with which the United States has trade deals. The Supreme Court’s decision to impose tariffs has sparked widespread unrest in the United States. This decision has created turmoil in businesses worldwide. Throughout the night, reactions to the Supreme Court’s decision continued to flow from the Donald Trump administration to the United States.
