New Delhi: Just ahead of the start of the IPL season, Chennai Super Kings fans have received a major blow. CSK’s legendary player, MS Dhoni, will be unable to join his team for approximately two weeks. Specifically, on Saturday, March 28, the CSK franchise confirmed that Dhoni will miss the opening matches due to a calf strain.
Dhoni Could Miss 4 Matches
According to reports, MS Dhoni could be sidelined for the first four matches of this season. In Dhoni’s absence, the wicketkeeping duties for the team could be handled either by Sanju Samson or, alternatively, Urvil Patel might be given an opportunity. It is likely that Dhoni will miss at least the first four fixtures of the season.
Matches Dhoni Could Miss:
Dhoni’s absence at the start of the season will serve as a major test of CSK’s squad depth, particularly in terms of leadership and finishing capabilities.
It is worth noting that Dhoni retired from international cricket in 2020 but has continued to play exclusively in the IPL. Last season, he played all 14 matches and scored 196 runs at a strike rate of over 135. He also took over the captaincy duties when Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to injury.
Even at the age of 44, Dhoni remains one of the most influential players in the league. If he makes a comeback later in the season, he will become the oldest Indian player to play in the IPL. For now, CSK will have to navigate the initial phase without their biggest icon, and all eyes will be on how the team adapts in his absence.
