New Delhi. Amid the ongoing war, a powerful earthquake has struck Iran. According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), a 4.1-magnitude earthquake was recorded in the western region of the Iranian coastal city of Bandar Abbas on Saturday. Local residents were alarmed by the tremors.
Being a port city, the administration is reviewing security measures. There are no immediate reports of major casualties or property damage.
The earthquake has sparked renewed debate amid the ongoing conflict between Iran and the US-Israel for the past eight days. This is the second time in the past four days that strong tremors have been felt in Iran. Many experts have expressed skepticism about these tremors, which occurred in a war-like atmosphere. Some analysts believe it could be a natural earthquake, but given the current situation, it is also being linked to a possible nuclear test.
It is generally believed that if an underground nuclear test were conducted, the resulting tremor could be 4.5 on the Richter scale or higher. However, available scientific data does not confirm that the recent tremors were caused by a nuclear test.
Iran has repeatedly claimed that it possesses the capability to build a nuclear bomb within a very short time. Meanwhile, a confidential report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) dated February 2026 stated that before the recent military tensions, Iran possessed approximately 440.9 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent.
This level is considered very close to the 90 percent purity required for weapons production. According to IAEA estimates, if this stock were enriched further, it could produce approximately ten nuclear weapons.
