Tehran: Tensions between the US and Iran are continuously increasing. Now, Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has warned the US that they possess weapons capable of destroying the US fleet. Iran’s statement makes it clear that it is also preparing for war and will retaliate if the US attacks.
According to dependent flight-tracking data and military aviation monitors, modern fighter jets such as F-22s, F-35s, and F-16s have been seen heading towards the Middle East. Several aerial refueling tankers have also been sent with them, indicating that the US military is preparing for a long-term military operation. Earlier, Trump had announced that he had sent several advanced US warships to the Middle East.
Khamenei’s Warning to the US
Retaliating to Trump’s statement, Khamenei posted a photo on his social media handle showing America’s largest aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, submerged underwater, along with a grave symbol.
‘Weapons are more dangerous than warships’
In his post, Khamenei took a jab at the US President’s statements, writing that the US President constantly claims to have sent a warship to Iran. While a warship is certainly dangerous military hardware, even more dangerous than that warship is the weapon that can sink it. Khamenei’s statement demonstrates Iran’s defense capabilities and its readiness for retaliation.
Amid rising tensions between Tehran and Washington, such rhetoric has further escalated the situation. Experts believe Iran was indirectly referring to the strength of its anti-ship missile systems. Iran views the deployment of US naval assets as a major challenge, and in response, it has publicly threatened to destroy warships. Tensions are currently running high on both sides.
Second Round of Talks in Geneva
On Tuesday, the two countries held a second round of talks in Geneva regarding Tehran’s nuclear program, mediated by Oman. The Iranian Foreign Minister described the talks as positive, stating that agreements were reached on several issues and that further discussions were also held regarding a future meeting. However, US Vice President JD Vance stated that while agreements were reached between the two countries on several issues, Iran is not prepared to accept some of the red lines set by the President.
