Israel Fires Missiles into Caspian Sea; Claims Attack on Russia-Iran Arms Supply Line

March 25, 2026

New Delhi: The conflict in the Middle East has now reached a critical juncture where its geographical boundaries appear to be constantly dissolving. For the first time, Israel has launched an attack into the Caspian Sea, targeting a vital arms supply line operating between Russia and Iran. This strike is not merely a military operation but also conveys a significant strategic message: the war has now expanded beyond traditional geographical borders.

The Caspian Sea, considered the world’s largest inland body of water, has long served as a secure corridor between Russia and Iran. This region is also considered to be beyond the operational reach of the U.S. Navy, thereby allowing both nations the freedom to transport weapons and supplies with minimal risk.

  • Utilizing this very route, drones, artillery shells, and hundreds of thousands of rounds of ammunition were being transported. According to reports, more than 300,000 artillery shells and approximately one million rounds of ammunition were transferred via this route.

Attack on Key Russia-Iran Supply Line
In particular, Iran’s “Shahed drones” had emerged as the most critical link in this supply chain. Russia has been deploying these drones in attacks on Ukrainian cities, while Iran has been using them to target U.S. bases and infrastructure within the Gulf region.

To dismantle this network, Israel launched an attack on Bandar-e Anzali, a port city situated on Iran’s Caspian coast. The strike targeted dozens of military installations, including warships, naval command centers, shipyards, and repair facilities. Visual evidence of the aftermath revealed the destruction of several vessels and extensive damage to naval infrastructure.

Russia Supports Iran in the Conflict
This entire sequence of events has also brought to light the deepening military alliance between Russia and Iran. During the conflict, Russia provided Iran with satellite intelligence and advanced drone technology, thereby enhancing both the precision and potency of its attacks. According to experts, the objective of this strike was not merely to disrupt supply lines, but also to expose vulnerabilities within Iran’s maritime security infrastructure.

The repercussions of this strike could be not only military but also economic in nature. This very route serves as a conduit for the trade of wheat and other essential commodities. Consequently, alongside the supply of drones, food security could also be adversely affected. Russia has strongly condemned this attack, characterizing it as an assault on a civilian trade hub. Moscow has issued a warning that such actions would only serve to further escalate the conflict.

However, experts believe that these repercussions will not be entirely permanent; Russia and Iran may well seek out alternative routes. Yet, one thing remains certain: Israel has demonstrated its capability to launch strikes even in distant and unexpected regions. The question now remains: was this merely a warning, or can we anticipate further such attacks in the days to come?
