Karnataka: Uncontrolled truck ran over eight people while trying to save a bike rider, CM announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh

Hassan: A tragic accident took place during Ganesh idol immersion in Hassan district of Karnataka on Friday. An uncontrolled truck hit the devotees participating in Ganesh immersion. 8 people died in this accident and 25 others were seriously injured. Police said that this incident happened on National Highway-373, when the truck lost control while trying to avoid a bike.

The truck driver also got injured in this accident and was taken into custody. After the accident, 5 people died on the spot, while 3 injured died during treatment. Hassan SP Mohammed Sujitha said that the total number of dead has gone up to 8. Out of the 25 seriously injured people, 18 have been admitted to Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS), while the remaining 7 patients are undergoing treatment in several private hospitals.


CM Siddaramaiah announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed deep condolences on this accident and announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the deceased. He wrote on the social media platform X that he was very sad to hear the news of several people being killed and more than 20 people being seriously injured due to a truck collision during Ganesh immersion in Hassan. I pray that the souls of the deceased rest in peace and the injured recover as soon as possible.

He said that the government will give a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. The government will also bear the cost of treatment of the people injured in this incident. This is a very sad moment.

Deputy CM expressed grief
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar described the accident as horrific and expressed condolences to the deceased. He tweeted that the horrific accident that happened during Ganesh immersion in Mosalehosalli of Hassan district is very sad. I am deeply saddened to hear about this tragic incident. I pray that the souls of the victims rest in peace and may God give strength to their families to bear this grief.
