
Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court has accepted a petition challenging the government order banning vehicular movement on Kolkata’s Red Road for seven days on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
Advocate Shamim Ahmed raised the matter before Justice Saugata Bhattacharya (Court 5). Hearing the petition filed by the All India Lawyers Association, Justice Bhattacharya granted permission for hearing. The court will hear the matter in detail tomorrow (Thursday).
Indeed, the West Bengal government had issued an order banning vehicular movement on Kolkata’s Red Road for seven days in view of the International Yoga Day celebrations (June 21). The All India Lawyers Association has approached the High Court against this order. The petition states that the seven-day ban on vehicular movement is unreasonable.
