
Prayagraj. A ‘stampede-like’ situation arose at Sangam in Maha Kumbh on Wednesday morning. Officials have given this information. Today, on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya, a large number of pilgrims had gathered for holy bath. Wednesday was the second Amrit Snan of Maha Kumbh which has been canceled. Now Akharas will take Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami.
Akanksha Rana, Special Executive Officer of Kumbh Mela Authority said, ‘A stampede-like situation arose due to the breaking of some barriers on the Sangam route. Some people have been injured, who have been admitted to the hospital. They are undergoing treatment.’ He said that we do not know the exact number of injured yet.
The accident happened between poles number 11 to 17
The injured have been admitted to the Central Hospital set up in Sector 2 of the fair area. Relatives of many injured have also reached there. Also, some senior administrative and police officers are present there. According to the information, the accident happened between poles number 11 to 17 on Sangam Nose, in which many people were injured and many were separated from their families.
Today’s Amrit Snan canceled
Many families who came from Assam and Meghalaya told that the stampede happened suddenly. Many people fell together in which about 30 to 40 people were injured. However, the number of injured is still unconfirmed. After the stampede at Sangam Sthal in Maha Kumbh, today’s Amrit Snan has been canceled. The Akhara Parishad has taken this decision.
Amrit Snan will be held on Basant Panchami
Earlier, the fair administration had appealed to the Akhara Parishad President Ravindrapuri to stop the Amrit Snan of the Akharas for the time being, after which today’s Amrit Snan was canceled. Akharas had started reaching Sangam for bathing, who have now returned. Akhara Parishad has announced that the Amrit Snan of Akharas will now take place on Basant Panchami.
A day before Mauni Amavasya, a crowd of people started gathering in Maha Kumbh. From the roads to the lanes of Prayagraj, everything is full. Be it the railway station or the bus stand, there is no place to even put a foot anywhere. The enthusiasm of the devotees regarding Mauni Amavasya is such that they are ready to bear every hardship.
