Major RBI Announcement Regarding Your Loans: No Change in Repo Rate

New Delhi: The decision from the Reserve Bank of India’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting has been announced. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra stated that there has been no change to the repo rate; it remains unchanged at 5.25%. This means there will be no hike in your loan EMIs, and the interest rate on your loan will remain stable.

The Governor noted that while many central banks globally are raising interest rates, the RBI decided to keep the repo rate unchanged. Although uncertainty persists in the global economy and market volatility has occurred due to supply chain disruptions, India’s economy remains robust. We continue to perform well, and the economy remains stable.

Prior to this, the RBI had implemented a total rate cut of 125 basis points since February 2025; however, there have been no changes since the last monetary policy meeting. Regarding inflation, India’s retail inflation rate rose to 3.48% in April 2026, remaining below the RBI’s medium-term target of 4%.

The six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), chaired by RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra, began its three-day policy meeting on Wednesday, June 3, and the decision was announced today. This time, the RBI faces challenges such as crude oil prices, the depreciation of the rupee, and the risk of rising inflation.
