Many Air India-Indigo flights cancelled in border areas

New Delhi. After the incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, a ceasefire was declared after a period of tension between India and Pakistan. Currently, the border is peaceful but Pakistan is not desisting from its antics. In view of the potential threats, India is still on alert mode and companies have issued a new advisory for planes passing through border areas.

Air India has issued an advisory on Tuesday, May 13, announcing the cancellation of flights to and from eight major cities, citing security reasons in view of recent developments.


Which cities are in the affected areas?
The affected airports include Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot. The airline made the announcement through a social media post on Monday evening, stressing that the decision was taken keeping safety in mind.

“In view of recent developments and your safety, flights to and from Jammu, Leh, Jodhpur, Amritsar, Bhuj, Jamnagar, Chandigarh and Rajkot have been cancelled on Tuesday, May 13. We are monitoring the situation and will keep you updated,” the airline said in the social media post.
Acknowledging the inconvenience caused by this, IndiGo said, “We understand how this may affect your travel plans and we deeply regret the inconvenience. Our teams are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates from time to time. Please check the status of your flight on our website or app before going to the airport. For any assistance, we are just a call or message away and are always ready to help.”

Meanwhile, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced the reopening of 32 airports in northern and western India for civilian flights. These airports were temporarily closed amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, which was initially extended till May 15.

What is the situation in the border areas?
Meanwhile, there were also reports of increased military activity on the India-Pakistan border. The Indian Air Defense System intercepted a Pakistani drone in the Samba sector, causing red streaks and explosions to appear in the night sky. Army sources have confirmed that some drones have entered the sector and are being actively dealt with. The army said there is nothing to worry about.
