Bhopal. January 15, 2027, is set to be etched in golden letters in the history of Madhya Pradesh. Following a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the 2027 National Army Day celebrations will be hosted in Bhopal.
Notably, Army Day is celebrated annually on January 15. This day commemorates the occasion in 1949 when K.M. Cariappa assumed office as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Army, succeeding General Sir F.R.R. Bucher.
CM Yadav stated that this grand celebration would introduce the citizens of the state to the nation’s rich military heritage and inspire the youth to join the Army.
Yadav remarked, “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Army has demonstrated indomitable courage, valor, and strength at every juncture. With the objective of acquainting the state’s citizens with the Army’s rich military heritage and inspiring the youth to join the forces, a special parade will be organized in Bhopal on January 15, 2027.”
The Chief Minister noted that the experience of attending these Army Day events in Bhopal would be akin to that of the Republic Day celebrations held in New Delhi on January 26. He further assured that his government would extend every possible support to the Army for these events.
CM Yadav added, “On this occasion, the Army will organize a ‘Shaurya Sandhya’ (Evening of Valor). This event will feature an exhibition of the Army’s weaponry, resources, and equipment, alongside demonstrations of military exercises. Retired soldiers will also be felicitated during the occasion. All activities will be conducted with the same grandeur and dignity typically witnessed during the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi on January 26.”
The Chief Minister further informed that Defense Minister Rajnath Singh would also participate in these celebrations. The objective of this program is to engage the public with military parades, while also fostering better coordination and mutual trust between the Army and the civil administration.
Celebrations to Begin as Early as November 1st
Some activities associated with the main ceremony, scheduled for January 15th, will commence as early as November 1st. November 1st marks the Foundation Day of Madhya Pradesh.
On the occasion of Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day, soil will be collected from various districts across the state as part of the ‘Meri Maati’ (My Soil) campaign. A ‘Sankalp Vriksh’ (Pledge Tree) will be planted at the ‘Shaurya Smarak’ (War Memorial) located in Bhopal.
Why is Army Day Celebrated?
It is worth noting that the initiative to decentralize national events began in 2023. Its aim was to reinforce Prime Minister Modi’s vision of ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India), encourage nationwide public participation in the Indian Army, and further strengthen the bonds between the Army and the citizenry.
He further explained that, under this initiative, Army Day was hosted in Bengaluru in 2023, Lucknow in 2024, Pune in 2025, and Jaipur in 2026.
