Nepal: How can Sushila Karki become the Prime Minister of Nepal, four more names in the race

New Delhi. Who will take charge of Nepal now, this question is echoing in everyone’s mind, because KP Oli has resigned from the post after heavy violence and protests. A huge virtual meeting of Gen-Z was held to decide who should hand over the future of Nepal. In this, there was a lot of brainstorming on the possible candidates for the post of the future Prime Minister of the country, more than 5000 members participated in this online meeting. In this virtual meeting, former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has got the majority. However, this is not such an easy process, because if Sushila Karki accepts this proposal, then according to experts of Nepal, she will first meet Army Chief General Ashok Raj Sigdel and then get the approval of President Ramchandra Poudel.

Let us tell you that a representative of Gen-Z said that Kathmandu Mayor Balen Shah is the most popular among this generation, although he did not respond despite repeated attempts to contact him. According to a source of Nepal Press, due to his not responding, the discussion focused on other potential candidates, in which former Chief Justice Sushila Karki got the most support.


Sushil Karki’s name was proposed by Gen-Z members for the post of Prime Minister, they had demanded 1000 written letters of support. According to sources, he has received support from more than 2500 people.

Which names are in discussion?
Other potential candidates in discussion include Kulman Ghising, Sagar Dhakal and Harka Sampang. Interestingly, a famous YouTuber named Random Nepali has also received a lot of votes, but he made it clear that he will be ready for the post of Prime Minister only if no other candidate agrees to this post.

Who is Sushila Karki?
Sushila Karki is a 72-year-old former Chief Justice of Nepal. She created history in 2016 by becoming the first female Chief Justice of Nepal. She was appointed by the then President Vidya Devi Bhandari, based on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council led by then Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. This was considered an important milestone in the judicial and gender history of Nepal. Sushila Karki worked as a teacher before joining the judiciary. She made a mark as a fearless, competent and corruption-free jurist. Her tenure is known for bold decisions and being active in political controversies, especially cases involving senior ministers.

Sushila has been a member of the Constitution Drafting Committee
Sushila Karki has also been a member of the 2006 Constitution Drafting Committee, where her contribution was widely appreciated. In 2009, she was made an ad-hoc judge in the Supreme Court of Nepal and became a permanent judge in 2010. In 2016, she worked as Acting Chief Justice for some time. And she was formally appointed in July, breaking all barriers for women in the judiciary in Nepal.
