August 15, 2025

New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin’s press secretary, i.e. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, said on Thursday that there is no plan to issue a joint statement after the summit between President Putin and US President Donald Trump. He made it clear that the meeting is being organized in a very hurry and there is very little chance that any document will be signed after the Alaska meeting.

President Trump and Putin’s meeting will begin at 1 am on August 15 local time, i.e. on the intervening night of August 15-16 Indian time. It was expected that a joint statement would be issued after the meeting between Putin and Trump, but the Kremlin spokesman has put an end to these reports.

Peskov, while talking to Russian news agency Interfax, said in response to a question, ‘No, nothing of this kind can be expected. We have not made any such preparations and it is unlikely that any document will be signed.’

He said, however, that the two leaders can hold a joint press conference as it has been planned. During this, President Putin will present the outline of any agreement or arrangement reached during the meeting.

Peskov said that this summit to be held in the US state of Alaska on Friday is being organized in a very short time. He said that during this time both the leaders will discuss very important issues. Along with this, he said that no prediction should be made in advance about the results of the meeting.

What did the Russian spokesperson say about Trump?
Speaking on Russian state television after this interview, Peskov said that Trump has an ‘extremely unusual approach’ towards difficult issues. He said that Russia and President Putin personally attach great importance to this approach of Trump.

He said that the Alaska meeting is currently a bilateral meeting of America and Russia at a high level and Ukraine’s point of view will be considered in the later stages of the meeting.

The one-on-one conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump will take place in the presence of translators. After this, there will be talks between the delegations of the two countries. From Russia’s side, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Presidential Advisor Yuri Ushakov, Defense Minister Belousov, Finance Minister Siluanov and Special Envoy Dmitriev will attend this meeting.

What did Trump say before the meeting with Putin?
Regarding the meeting, US President Trump has said that he is confident that the Russian President will come to the Alaska meeting on Friday with the intention of reaching an agreement to end the Ukraine war.

Speaking to Fox Radio, Trump said that I think Putin is confident that he will make a deal. Trump has said that he will take further steps only on the basis of the results of the meeting. He said that if the meeting goes bad, he will not call anyone and will go straight home, but if the meeting goes well, he will call President Zelensky and European leaders.
