
New Delhi: 26 tourists including a foreigner were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. This brutal incident took place on 22 April. Today, one month has been completed since this cowardly terror attack. A lot happened in these one month. In the rapidly changing events, India cancelled the Indus Water Treaty. Terrorist hideouts in Pakistan were targeted. A war-like situation developed with Pakistan and then a ceasefire was also declared. What happened in this one month, from the investigation of the Pahalgam attack to India’s global mission?
NIA investigating the Pahalgam attack
The very next day of the Pahalgam attack, the National Investigation Agency took over the investigation of the case. The NIA team started investigating this terror attack on 23 April. The investigation team continuously reached the Baisaran Valley and inspected the crime scene and made inquiries. The Ministry of External Affairs has informed the Standing Committee of Parliament that the terrorists involved in the Pahalgam attack and their masters sitting in Pakistan are connected. This attack is similar to the earlier attacks, for which ‘The Resistance Front’ had taken responsibility. TRF is another name for Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Indus Water Treaty suspended
The very next day after the Pahalgam terror attack, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this meeting held on 23 April, a big decision was taken regarding the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan. India suspended the Indus Water Treaty. Pakistan was also informed about this. India clearly told Pakistan that this treaty will remain suspended until it stops supporting terrorism. Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh as well as National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were present in this meeting chaired by PM Modi at the Prime Minister’s residence.
Attari border closed
India had taken another big decision in the CCS meeting itself. India had announced the closure of Attari border as well. Announcing the closure of Attari Integrated Check Post with immediate effect, India cancelled the visas issued to Pakistani citizens. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri informed about the cancellation of visas issued to Pakistani citizens under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme and said that people who came to India on this visa should leave the country within 48 hours. Pakistani citizens who came to India on the basis of valid documents were asked to leave the country before May 1.
Pak Embassy staff declared unwanted
India had declared the Defense or Military, Navy and Air Force advisors of the Pakistani Embassy as Persona Non Grata the very next day of the Pahalgam attack. These officials were asked to leave India within seven days. Pakistani Embassy official Ahsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish was declared unwanted by the government on May 13 and asked to leave India. On 21 May, just a day before the completion of one month of the Pahalgam attack, India had declared a Pakistani officer as persona non grata and asked him to leave the country within 24 hours.
The army taught a lesson to Pakistan
The Indian government gave the army a free hand to take action against the terrorists. Prime Minister Narendra Modi held continuous meetings with the chiefs of the three armies, Chief of Defense Staff, National Security Advisor. The army launched Operation Sindoor on the night of 6 and 7 May and attacked and destroyed nine terrorist bases across the border, including Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
On the night of 7 May, the army fired missiles on the military bases of the neighboring country, foiling Pakistan’s attempt to counter-attack. Half a dozen airbases of Pakistan were destroyed in the attack of the Indian Army. The army’s Operation Sindoor lasted for four days. In the situation of war deepening between the two countries, the Pakistani DGMO called his Indian counterpart and talked to him, in which a ceasefire was agreed upon.
India’s Global Mission, Delegation sent
The ceasefire with Pakistan has been declared, but India is now engaged in a global mission to expose Pakistan at the global level. India opposed the loan given to Pakistan by the International Monetary Fund, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also appealed to the Asian Development Bank to stop funding Pakistan. Now India is sending seven all-party delegations to expose Pakistan on the issue of terrorism. The first batch of delegations have already reached abroad.
