New Delhi: Pakistan shelters terrorists in its country and the whole world knows this. Under Operation Sindoor, India entered Pakistan and destroyed terrorist bases. Earlier, after the Pahalgam attack, the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan was suspended and trade with the neighboring country was completely stopped. In such a situation, the condition of the already dilapidated country Pakistan has worsened further and famine-like conditions have arisen there.
Famine-like conditions
According to the report of the Pakistani newspaper, Pakistan is facing a worrying situation in terms of food security. Food inflation fell to 0.3 percent by December 2024, which was less than double digits at the beginning of the year, but poverty and unemployment are becoming the biggest obstacle in everyone’s access to food. The floods of the year 2022 have left deep scars on Pakistan.
Extreme weather events in 2023 and 2024 have destroyed livelihoods, particularly in rural Balochistan, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Water levels in these regions are declining, increasing agricultural losses and trapping dependent farmers in a deep debt trap.
Malnutrition remains a concern
According to the latest assessment in the report, 11 million people in Pakistan are in IPC Phase 3 crisis or worse, while 2.2 million people are facing emergency-like conditions. The continued rise in malnutrition is of concern in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a large number of low-weight children are born and diarrhea and lung-related infections have increased.
Compounding these challenges is the decline in global humanitarian investment, which has reduced food aid programs. The financial aid that Pakistan receives from global institutions on humanitarian grounds has decreased, which has weakened the ongoing programs to deal with challenges like food security and malnutrition.
PAK, a supporter of terrorists
Dawn said in its report that immediate policy changes are needed to deal with these challenges. The center and provinces need to strengthen their social security network. Also, nutritional support for mothers and children should be ensured and more investment should be made in agriculture. Without decisive action, Pakistan is in danger of falling back into the old clutches of hunger and poverty.
The government of Pakistan is spending more on terrorists than on the security of its citizens. Recently, the Shahbaz government has announced financial aid of Rs 14 crore to terrorist Masood Azhar. As long as the government there nurtures and helps terrorists, it is very difficult to protect the interests of common citizens.
