
Victoria: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the country’s 50th Independence Day celebrations as the Chief Guest on Sunday during his visit to Seychelles. This marked the first time an Indian Prime Minister received the honor of being the Chief Guest at Seychelles’ National Day celebrations. A joint marching contingent from the Indian Navy and Army participated in the parade on this occasion.
The Indian Navy band also performed. As a special gesture from India, the warships INS Tarkash and INS Ikshak were deployed at Port Victoria. Prime Minister Modi also extended his Independence Day greetings to the people of Seychelles.
Bilateral Talks Between PM Modi and Patrick Herminie
Earlier, bilateral talks were held between Prime Minister Modi and the President of Seychelles, Patrick Herminie. Both leaders agreed to further strengthen cooperation in areas such as health, education, skill development, digital transformation, sustainable development, social infrastructure, renewable energy, maritime security, and defense.
Issues related to security in the Indian Ocean region were also discussed during the meeting. Both leaders emphasized the need to jointly tackle challenges such as illegal fishing, drug trafficking, and piracy. Satisfaction was also expressed regarding the progress of projects being implemented under the special economic package announced by India.
India Will Continue to Provide All Possible Support: PM Modi
Prime Minister Modi stated that India would continue to provide all possible support for Seychelles’ development priorities and remains committed to taking the long-standing, strong, and trusting relationship between the two nations to new heights.
